We left off with the idea that YHVH was giving instruction to Israel so they could korban, or draw near to Him.  In our modern culture, the idea of animal sacrifices seems barbaric.  I’m learning it seems barbaric because I didn’t have a clear understanding of why it was necessary for animals to die.  The idea of death as necessary to draw near is my first mistake. My study group worked through Exodus 33-34 verse by verse and I learned something new about Moses’ conversation with YHVH.  At first glance, it seems Moses is discussing the necessity of YHVH’s continued presence with the people as they travel, but there are nuances to the conversation that intrigued me.  Read more »

The menorah is a fascinating item in the Holy Place.  It was the only light source in an otherwise darkened room.  There were 3 layers of materials enclosing the Holy Place and no windows.  It was made of one solid beaten piece of pure gold, which in and of itself is a miracle because the purest gold is fairly soft.  Yet it stood firm and tall.  Read more »

The colors used in the tabernacle and the high priest’s garments had significance.  Gold signifies divinity, silver redemption and bronze suffering.  In Hebrew you get even a deeper meaning for each color.  Read more »

He Tabernacled Among Us

Did you know that tabernacle means “to dwell among?”  This definition sheds a whole new light on the tabernacle of Israel.  In fact, when taken literally, a person can see six times where YHVH tabernacled among His people in history.  Read more »

The Sabbath is the final act of the creation week.  Am I the only one who wondered why YHWH rested on the seventh day?  He didn’t need to rest. It can be argued and supported that He did it as an example to man who would need a day of rest each week, but I don’t think that tells the whole story about the Sabbath, so I decided to dig a little deeper.  Read more »
